Ammon is a native Utahn and graduate of Brigham Young University. Although he has lived for brief periods around the country and abroad, he and his wife fell in love with Davis County and decided to put down roots in south-west Layton. Ammon now works as an Electrical Engineer for L3Harris Technologies in Salt Lake City.
As the son of a history-loving father and a politically involved mother, he became interested in political issues from a young age. The 2016 presidential election was an especially defining moment for Ammon as he found himself feeling increasingly politically homeless with both major parties moving to opposite extremes of the political spectrum. He realized that fixing our broken political system would require systematic reforms.
He has been involved in various political causes for the last decade including Evan McMullin’s 2016 campaign, RepresentUs, Stand Up Republic, and efforts to implement Ranked Choice Voting and Independent Redistricting in Utah. He has previously been a member of both major political parties, but energetically embraced the United Utah Party when it came on the scene in 2017 and is proud to advance its cause.
Although he has worked for years from the sidelines to make government better, he recently became discouraged with the Utah legislature’s willingness to gut voter-approved initiatives and pass widely unpopular tax reforms. This spurred him to get off the sidelines and run for public office. Besides his passion for politics, he also enjoys distance running, reading good books, and playing with his four young sons.
